1. Hinds County could lose off-site body storage (mississippitoday.org) — Hinds County is preparing to end its temporary morgue arrangement near Raymond, which has helped handle a surge of unclaimed bodies linked partly to Jackson's record homicide levels. Officials are weighing how to clear the space and improve procedures after past failures to notify families, while pauper burials continue at the county cemetery behind the penal farm in Jackson.

Jackson, MS, saw 7 murders and a 13-hour police standoff in September (sunherald.com) — Jackson recorded seven homicides in September, bringing this year's total to 69 and including a 13-hour police standoff after a Medgar Evers Boulevard killing. Police have made several arrests but many cases remain unsolved, and Jackson-area agencies are urging residents to share any information with JPD, Capitol Police, or Crime Stoppers to help move these investigations forward.
