• Jurors hear officers explain why they shot and killed a Jackson man (desotocountynews.com) — Jurors in Jackson are hearing detailed testimony and recorded statements from two former Capitol Police officers charged with manslaughter in the 2022 shooting of 25-year-old Jaylen Lewis, a Jackson resident. Witnesses, investigators, and medical experts have described the traffic stop, the gunfire, and evidence about weapons and drugs as the jury prepares to decide whether the killing was criminal or self-defense. 
• Five candidates running to be next Hinds County DA (wjtv.com) — Hinds County voters, including those in Jackson, will choose a new district attorney on November 3, 2026, with five candidates now qualified for the special election. The seat opened after former DA Jody Owens resigned following a guilty plea in a Jackson bribery scandal, and residents say they want a leader ready to protect youth and uphold justice.
