• Two longtime Ridgeland police officers are set to retire at ... (onlinemadison.com) — Two longtime Ridgeland police officers with ties to Madison County Schools and the Madison Police Department will retire June 30 after more than 60 combined years of service. One officer was recently honored with a street named near Ridgeland High, and both plan to stay active locally even as they step back from full-time police work.

• Mary Margaret Flynn Edwards (northsidesun.com) — Madison is mourning longtime educator Mary Margaret Flynn Edwards, a 68-year-old resident and former assistant principal at Madison Central High School who shaped local students’ lives for decades. After retiring, she continued serving in special education, remained active at Chapel of the Cross, and is remembered for her deep compassion, love of the beach, and devotion to family and animals.

• Civil rights groups file suit over MS law requiring panhandling permit (clarionledger.com) — Madison is among the cities that chose to opt out of Mississippi’s new Safe Solicitation Act, even as a major lawsuit now challenges the law’s constitutionality.
