Hinds Tax Increase (northsidesun.com) — Property taxes in Madison County, including the city of Madison, are dropping slightly this year, saving homeowners about $16.30 per $100,000 in value, while neighboring Hinds County residents face an increase. The reduction comes from a state-required rollback in the countywide millage rate, and city of Madison residents will see no change in their city ad valorem rate compared with last year.

2. Madison County lawsuit dismissed in defamation case (wlbt.com) — A Madison County Circuit Court judge has dismissed with prejudice a former county employee’s defamation and emotional distress lawsuit against the county, ending the case. The ruling cites Mississippi’s Tort Claims Act and Workers’ Compensation Act, finding the alleged workplace-related harms can’t be pursued against the county, with each side now responsible for its own legal costs.

Brookhaven Academy Cougars use big 2nd half to pull away from Cathedral Green Wave to win MAIS District 4-3A title (natchezdemocrat.com) — Cathedral’s football team, coming off a district loss to Brookhaven Academy, will travel to Madison next Friday night to face St. Joseph Catholic School at 7 p.m. After injuries to key offensive players, the Green Wave will look to regroup on the Bruins’ home field, giving Madison fans a chance to catch an important late-season MAIS matchup.

4. Amazon Launches $1B Community Fund to Combat Data Center Moratoriums (time.news) — Amazon is pouring more than $20 billion into data center projects across Madison County and nearby Mississippi sites, supporting thousands of construction jobs now and over 1,700 permanent positions once facilities open. The company is also launching a $1 billion national community fund and ending secretive government NDAs as it tries to ease local concerns about data centers’ impact on utilities and neighborhoods.

5. Escaped Parolee Recaptured in Jackson After Chase (queencitynewsfeed.com) — An escaped parolee who fled the Madison County Community Work Center was recaptured in Jackson after a brief vehicle and foot chase, officials say. The man, originally sentenced for felony DUI, now faces new felony fleeing charges and has been moved to Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, while investigators look into how he obtained the SUV used in his escape.
