1. Meridian Museum of Art opens registration for fall after-school art classes (wtok.com) — Parents in Meridian can now register kids for the Meridian Museum of Art's 12‑week fall after‑school classes, held Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. starting Sept. 3. Three age groups will explore hands‑on art techniques inside the historic Old Carnegie Library downtown. Registration is online, and the museum welcomes questions from local families.
   

2. BET Raised Us brings red carpet experience to The MAX on Oct. 3 (wtok.com) — Meridian's MAX museum is rolling out a BET‑inspired red carpet dance party on Saturday, Oct. 3, complete with VIP dinner, live music, and a chance to meet graphic novelist John Jennings. The evening honors BET founder and Mississippi native Robert L. Johnson while celebrating Black creativity rooted in the state. Tickets and full event details are available at msarts.org.
   

3. Solid Waste Amnesty Day to be held Sept. 19 (meridianstar.com) — Lauderdale County residents, especially those outside Meridian city limits, can safely dispose of hazardous household waste at Solid Waste Amnesty Day on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at 210 Windmill Drive. The free event accepts items like stale gas, paint, electronics, tires, and medications. City of Meridian residents also get separate amnesty events throughout the year.
   

4. MPSD approves SEL contract, new floor for Carver Elementary (meridianstar.com) — Meridian Public School District has approved a new Franklin Covey contract to provide leadership and social-emotional learning programs for all K–12 students, along with funding a new gym floor at Carver Elementary. Trustees also adjusted a sixteenth section land lease and celebrated students gaining real-world experience through an expanding work-based learning and maintenance program.
