Growth Spurt 2012

Growth spurts are not always in inches.

Good Morning,  Some of my fondest memories are when my two youngest were toodlers and I used to dress them alike so I could easily find them in a crowd. We loved to go to Soulard on Saturday mornings and if one of them drifted away with the crowd, I could scan the area and easily find them. Now, at age 13 and 14, they would cringe if I wanted them to dress alike. I can't even buy something for them without their approval. I like to buy things on line so this is problematic. Rolling their eyes is the universal sign for doing something a parent would only do. Although I am not looking for the approval but I have sent more things back after my best intentions are met with dismay and groans.

But I have noticed more than anything that this summer has brought a growth spurt to both of them. My youngest is now 2 inches taller and Prianna has grown at least 1 inch taller. Soon I will be the shortest one in the house. Taller does not mean more responsable although they both are slowly leaving their younger ways behind. Destiny now will do at least one of her chores without being reminded. I appreciate this  no matter how small it is. And Prianna corrects her smart mouth seconds after it leaves her mouth, even after not connecting with her sense of better judgement. Small improvements yes, but can real maturing be far behind? Soon my little ones with be facing a world of real life lessons and I must believe that all the work I have done and will continue to do will help them negotiate life situations when I am not around to remind them. School starts August 15th and every thing now is in preparation for that day. School clothes, supplies and attitudes are being brought out and dusted off for that exciting day of reuniting friends, meeting new teachers and opening up their minds for a year of new learning. I, on the other hand, are in prayer to be able to handle their expectations, rejections and everything in the middle for another growth spurt of any kind. Wish me luck!
