Fox Warriors Give A New Meaning To School Spirit

Fox High School students use their Spirit Week to show pride in their school, as well as their concern for each other.

Although this year's Fox High School Students Spirit Week included pep rallies, games and themed days to keep Warrior pride at a high, there was one thing that set this spirit week apart from all others in the past.

This year the students decided to help the community's morale.

“We already had everything planned, but when we heard we had to do something,” said sophomore Courtney Kaufsman, student council spirit committee member.

“No one else was doing anything to help and that wasn’t good enough,” said Megan Kohler, senior spirit committee chair.

They’re referring to how Hat/iPod Day was used to raise money for Abby Neff, a Fox student suffering from leukemia.

The Student Council charged $1 in the morning for students to be able to wear a hat and/or listen to their iPods. About 50 students participated. Staffers took part in the event, and a teacher close to the Neff family made a large donation. The groups raised about $225 and gave the money directly to Abby and her family, council members reported.

Council members weren’t surprised at the success of the event, saying that it was an opportunity to help someone they all knew.

“It was somebody that went to our school, and we were around all the time. It affects more people than you think,” said Kaufsman.

Advisor Robin Greene said she’s not surprised by the success of the event, or students' desire to help other students. “I was very pleased but not surprised. They are always looking for ways to help our students and families. Those are the projects that they are most passionate about,” she said.

While this may have been the first event of its kind for a Fox spirit week, it may not be the last. “I think students enjoyed and appreciated the event,” Kaufsman said.

“It also just reminded kids to show spirit, but also help her and her family as well,” Kohler said.
