School is just around the corner. Do you have a breakfast plan ready for your kids?
A bowl of cereal or a toaster pastry might be a quick and easy breakfast for school kids, but it’s not really the best. A sugar laden breakfast could wear out long before lunch time, leaving your child stranded in the middle of math class with no brain fuel.
Instead, try a fixing a breakfast that has fiber, slow-burning carbs and a little protein that will last them until the lunch bell rings. Here’s a few ideas that are almost as fast as cereal, but more nutritious and just as yummy.

Pizza Eggs: It looks complicated, but this “egg on a muffin” breakfast uses hard boiled eggs, which you can make up the night before. Just top an English muffin with sliced hard boiled eggs, tomato, pizza cheese then broil in the toaster oven. Get the full recipe here.
Whole-Grain Waffles: Nobody said a good breakfast couldn’t come straight from the freezer aisle. Let your waffle pack a healthy punch by topping them with peanut butter or fresh fruit instead of syrup.

Oatmeal with Fruit: Skip the instant and whip up real oatmeal. It doesn’t take as long as you think if you use the “five minute” oats. Dice a fresh apple and saute in butter first, then add your milk or water and bring to a boil. Add the oats and cook for five minutes for a hot and hearty meal that will stick with your kids all morning.
Breakfast Burrito: Wrap scrambled eggs, cheese and a dab of salsa in a tortilla. If you want, you can make them ahead and freeze.
