City Of Clayton Publishes Weekly Police Incident Report From August 3 Until August 9

Officers responded to Moorlands multiple times this week for complaints of a suspicious subject in the area.

For the reporting period of Monday, August 3rd - Sunday, August 9th, CPD officers responded to 380 calls for service including 9 automobile accidents and 33 calls to assist the CFD. Among those calls were the following incidents:

Clayton Officers responded to the area of Ladue Rd & I-170 early Monday morning to assist Ladue PD Officers in searching for 4 men who fled the scene of a vehicle accident. A CPD Officer located one of the men walking in the 8400 block of Delmar. After confirming he was involved in the accident, Ladue Officers took the man into custody.

Later Monday morning, a CPD officer was conducting a foot patrol of a garage in the 8500 block of Maryland when she discovered 2 vehicles had been rummaged through & one of the vehicles was left with the doors standing ajar. Attempts to locate the vehicle owners were unsuccessful & investigation continues.

A resident of the first block of Arundel (between Skinker & DeMun) had just returned to his home early Tuesday morning when he became the victim of a carjacking. 2 armed subjects stole the resident’s vehicle & wallet before fleeing the area. Investigation continues & anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the CPD Detective Bureau at (314)290-8426.

Employees of The Wine Merchant contacted the CPD Tuesday after learning a man had fraudulently used 4 different credit cards to make over $1,000 in purchases from the store within a week’s time. The same man is suspected of making similar fraudulent purchases at additional retailers in the St. Louis County region. Officers are working with other jurisdictions in attempting to identify the thief.

Officers responded to Moorlands multiple times this week for complaints of a suspicious subject in the area. Officers spoke with the man who indicated he was attempting to contact an unidentified woman in the neighborhood. His efforts were focused on a specific address & it was determined the residents there had no prior knowledge of the man & did not wish to have contact with him. The man was instructed to leave the area & initially complied. When he returned Wednesday, he was arrested for harassment.

Officers responded to Glenridge Elementary Wednesday night where they discovered the remnants of recently discharged fireworks. Due to several recent fireworks related complaints we’d like to remind everyone per Clayton ordinance (with very limited exceptions) it is illegal to discharge fireworks within the City limits of Clayton. A traffic stop in the area of S. Brentwood Blvd. & Corporate Park early Friday morning resulted in the arrest of the driver for possession/delivery of a controlled substance. At the time of the traffic violation, the driver was in possession of marijuana & drug paraphernalia.

Friday afternoon, a resident observed a man steal an Amazon package from the front of her apartment building in the 6300 block of Southwood. He was seen leaving the area in a gray passenger car. The package was discarded in the 6800 block of Kingsbury.

A resident of the 800 block of S. Hanley contacted his friend Friday night after observing the friend’s minivan abandoned in the Central Presbyterian Church parking lot. The vehicle had been reported as stolen out of University City in June & U. City PD is continuing their investigation.

A traffic stop in the area of Clayton Rd. & Glenridge Ave. early Saturday morning resulted in the arrest of the driver for possession of marijuana & a suspected controlled substance.

Later Saturday morning, a passerby contacted the CPD after a man exposed himself in the area of S. Brentwood & Carondelet. The man was located nearby & arrested for indecent exposure.

Just after 4:30 Saturday morning, officers responded to the 7700 block of Davis Dr. for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The witness reported the occupants of a silver vehicle were checking the door handles of parked vehicles & driving through the neighborhood without headlights. While CPD officers searched the area, Richmond Heights officers attempted to stop a vehicle matching the same description in the area of E. Linden. When the RHPD officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled westbound on Clayton Rd. before wrecking in the area of Lay Rd. 4 subjects exited the vehicle & fled on foot. 2 of the subjects were found hiding in a nearby yard & were arrested. While searching the wrecked vehicle, officers discovered a handgun on the front passenger floorboard.

Finally, a resident of the 6300 block of Southwood reported securing 2 of her bicycles & 3 helmets with a chain lock in the shared yard of her home Saturday afternoon. When she returned to the yard Sunday afternoon, she discovered the bicycles, helmets & lock had all been stolen.
