City Of Clayton Weekly Police Incident Report: Oct. 5-11

A bicyclist suffered minor injuries after a collision with a USPS vehicle.

For the reporting period of Monday, October 5th – Sunday the 11th, CPD officers responded to 448 calls for service, including 10 automobile accidents, 28 calls to assist the CFD & 1 fireworks complaint. Among those calls were the following incidents:

A construction crew reported approximately $1,600 worth of tools & equipment were stolen from a residential build site sometime between Friday afternoon & Monday morning. A cellular phone, possibly belonging to the thief, was left behind.

A bicyclist suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon after a collision with a USPS vehicle. According to witnesses, the truck was exiting the Post Office property when the cyclist rode into the side of the vehicle.

Early Tuesday morning, Hampton Inn surveillance cameras captured a man checking for unlocked vehicles in the hotel's garage. One hotel guest reported a laptop & cash were taken from her vehicle. The same subject is suspected of rummaging through vehicles overnight in the Davis Place neighborhood.

A traffic stop in the area of Big Bend & Clayton Rd. early Wednesday morning resulted in the driver's arrest for possession of marijuana & possession of suspected methamphetamine & heroin.

Later Wednesday morning, a CPD officer was entering the Walgreens parking lot when he observed a man leave the store with a shopping cart full of alcohol. When the man noticed the Officer, he abandoned the cart & entered a nearby vehicle. As he fled the parking lot, he struck the Officer's patrol vehicle. The recovered merchandise was returned to the store. The same subject is suspected of recent thefts from the store.

A resident of the 100 block of N. Central discovered someone rummaged through his vehicle sometime between Sunday evening & Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle was left unlocked in a shared garage & approximately $10 was stolen.

Upon returning to a job site in the Carrswold neighborhood Thursday morning, the owner of a plastering company discovered his cement mixer was missing. He last recalled seeing the mixer on the evening of September 25th.

Hertz Rental contacted a customer Thursday, asking him to return his overdue rental. The customer claimed he returned the vehicle, per his rental agreement, in early September & placed the keys in the after-hours dropbox. The vehicle was recovered in Ferguson Sunday morning & investigation continues.

While conducting a foot patrol of Shaw Park Friday morning, a CPD officer discovered fresh graffiti in the Clayshire tunnel.

A window on the new Centene building's ground level was shattered sometime overnight Thursday or Friday morning. The area is under surveillance. However, due to construction, it is not clear what caused the window to shatter.

A traffic stop in the area of Brentwood Blvd. & Clayton Rd. Friday afternoon resulted in the driver's arrest for possession of stolen license plates.

While conducting a DWI investigation near Maryland Ave. & N. Central early Saturday morning, officers discovered the suspect was driving a vehicle reported as stolen from Indianapolis. The man admitted to stealing both the vehicle & a large amount of cash from his step-father. He was arrested for the thefts & officers will apply for warrants.

Officers once again found soap bubbling from the fountain at Chapman Plaza Saturday night. At the time of the investigation, no suspects or witnesses could be identified.

Finally, Sunday evening, Le Meridien Hotel staff discovered a man trespassing in an undeveloped area of the hotel. Officers contacted the man & advised him he would be arrested for trespassing if he returned to the hotel. He stated he understood. However, two hours later, the hotel staff reported the man had returned. Officers again contacted the man & arrested him for trespassing.
