Clayton Police Incident Report For Sept 28-Oct. 4
A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Sunday evening at the intersection of Brentwood and Forsyth.

For the reporting period of Monday, September 28th – Sunday, October 4th, CPD officers responded to 335 calls for service, including 17 automobile accidents & 20 calls to assist the Fire Department. Among those calls were the following incidents:

CVS employees reported a man stole a backpack from the store early Monday morning. Officers located the man nearby & arrested him for shoplifting.
Southbound I-170 traffic was temporarily impacted Monday night when five vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash.

As he returned to his vehicle in the 7700 block of Bonhomme Tuesday afternoon, a contractor observed 2 men loading a floor jack into a vehicle parked immediately behind his truck. The vehicle, a black Toyota Camry, fled at a high rate of speed. The contractor confirmed the men had stolen the floor jack from the bed of his truck.
CVS staff confronted a man Saturday afternoon as he concealed merchandise inside a bag he brought into the store. The merchandise was recovered & the man was arrested for shoplifting.
Officers recovered an abandoned bicycle & bicycle equipment from the 8000 block of Kingsbury Sunday afternoon. Please contact the CPD if you believe these items belong to you.
Finally, 5 of the 17 automobile accidents this week involved a vehicle leaving the accident scene. The 17th crash occurred Sunday evening when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as she crossed the intersection of Brentwood & Forsyth. Investigation revealed the pedestrian was walking with the pedestrian walk signal. However, the driver’s view was reportedly obstructed as they entered the intersection, blocking them from seeing the pedestrian.
Roadway safety requires efforts on the part of drivers, cyclists & pedestrians alike. As #PedestrianSafetyMonth continues, help us keep our community safe with these tips:
-Walk on sidewalks & paths where they are available & use crosswalks & traffic signals.
-Drivers & pedestrians should look left, right & left again before crossing streets &/or turning from one street to another.
-When possible, walkers & cyclists should try to make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street.
