Weekly Police Incident Report For The City Of Clayton

A man was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon Wednesday night after displaying a handgun while in the central business district.

For the reporting period of Monday, September 21st - Sunday, September 27th, CPD officers responded to 409 calls for service, including 11 automobile accidents, 29 calls to assist the CFD & 4 fireworks complaints. Among those calls were the following incidents:

Residents in the 6300 block of S. Rosebury were awakened early Monday morning by car alarms sounding. When one resident observed a subject tampering with his vehicle he yelled at the subject & witnessed them run toward a white compact car waiting nearby.

A witness reported seeing 5 individuals running from the area of Glenridge Elementary after setting off fireworks Monday night. Responding officers discovered fireworks debris on the school parking lot. The site is within view of the school’s surveillance cameras & officers will review video footage.

DGX suspects a man stole a t-shirt from the store before purchasing other merchandise. Employees discovered an opened package of t-shirts concealed beneath merchandise on a shelf across from the t-shirt display. Surveillance cameras revealed the suspect was the only customer in the aisle Wednesday.

A man was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon Wednesday night after displaying a handgun while in the central business district. A warrant was issued with a $20,000 cash-only bond.

Thursday afternoon, Avis employees reported a customer failed to return a rental vehicle. According to rental documents, a woman rented the car in June & did not return it 2 days later per the rental agreement. All attempts by Avis staff to retrieve the vehicle have been unsuccessful.

Ruth’s Chis management contacted the CPD Friday night after a large party failed to pay for their meal, valued at over $2,000. Management explained a woman arranged a reservation earlier in the week & signed a contract agreeing to a minimum payment for the party. When the woman provided her card for payment Friday night, the card was declined. Management offered to accept a lower amount; however, the woman & the rest of her party left without any further attempts to pay for their meal.

Just after 3 am Saturday, a CPD officer observed a passenger vehicle traveling at a low rate of speed through the DeMun area. Due to recent reports of items stolen from vehicles, the officer continued to monitor the car. When 3 subjects (later determined to be an adult & 2 juveniles) exited the vehicle, he approached them for questioning. Investigation revealed the car they arrived in had been stolen from St. Louis City hours before. Officers arrested the adult driver for tampering 1st degree (felony). While in custody, he admitted they had been in the DeMun area to look for another vehicle to steal. The 2 juvenile subjects were released from CPD custody to a guardian. This case has been forwarded to the St. Louis County Family Courts for consideration.

Later Saturday morning, officers responded to CVS after 2 male subjects stole cash from the store. The men were seen leaving the area in a black Buick Regal.

Finally, early Sunday morning, a man stole approximately $100 worth of merchandise from Walgreens. He was last seen leaving the area in a burgundy Ford Taurus. Employees believe this same man also stole merchandise on September 20th.
