• How a town abandoned due to toxic contamination became a state park (firstalert4.com) — Route 66 State Park in Eureka now welcomes hikers, bikers, and history buffs on land once occupied by the dioxin-contaminated town of Times Beach. The park preserves stretches of the old highway, river access, and a visitor center with Route 66 exhibits. It's become an international draw, bringing travelers from around the world through Eureka each year.
