Olde Towne Fenton Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution

Presents Four Local High School Students with DAR Good Citizen Awards and Scholarships

The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship and is open to all senior class students enrolled in an accredited public or private secondary school that is in good standing with their State Board of Education. Only one student per school may be selected as DAR Good Citizen.

The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation) to an outstanding degree.

Recently, the Olde Towne Fenton (OTF) Chapter held their annual Good Citizen Awards Reception, recognizing as Good Citizens: Ramya Mogallapu, from Rockwood Summit High School; Stephanie Ann Bube, from Valley Park High School; Isabel Lopez, from Eureka High School; and Collin Borisenko, from St. John Vianney High School. All four students were awarded with a certificate of distinction, a gift certificate, a DAR Good Citizen pin, and a wallet recognition card.

The winners of the DAR Good Citizen Award are also eligible to compete in a scholarship contest. Ramya, Stephanie and Isabel competed in the two-part scholarship contest, which contains an essay portion. Each contest entry is evaluated by independent, non-DAR judges. Their essays were each judged worthy of financial scholarship awards. Ramya’s winning essay entry advanced to the state level of judging.

Susan Hauf and Janice DeWeese served as co-chairs of the OTF Chapter, NSDAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Committee. In closing remarks, Susan Hauf addressed the award recipients by saying, “Because of the solid foundation of academic achievement, community service and leadership skills you possess, your future is unlimited.” Susan also recognized with appreciation the three independent judges, Mary Parsons, Mary Ann Koetting and Edna Warren.
