1. St. Elizabeth Hospital in Missouri set for demolition (cdrecycler.com) — Hannibal’s City Council has approved $1.7 million in contracts to demolish the long-vacant St. Elizabeth Hospital on Virginia Street, including hazardous material removal and air inspections. Work will start with asbestos and lead paint abatement, followed by demolition, which is expected to wrap up sometime in fall 2026.
   

2. Hannibal mayor says St. Elizabeth artifacts will be preserved (muddyrivernews.com) — As demolition of Hannibal’s former St. Elizabeth’s Hospital approaches, Mayor Darrell McCoy says religious and historical artifacts on the property will be preserved and offered to the Catholic Church. The city is also planning a brick preservation program so residents can keep commemorative pieces of the building, with details to be announced once logistics are finalized.
   

3. Missouri cuts Dolly Parton free book program (kctv5.com) — Hannibal families using the Dolly Parton Imagination Library will feel the impact of Missouri’s $4 million funding cut to the program, which slashes its budget to $2 million. The Hannibal Free Public Library director warns that no new sign-ups will be allowed after July 1, though children already enrolled will keep receiving books until money runs out.
   

4. Teen injured in Marion County crash on Highway 36 (kttn.com) — A 15-year-old boy suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Highway 36 about three miles west of Hannibal and was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital. Missouri State Highway Patrol says a Pontiac entered the path of a Volvo semi; both drivers were uninjured and all occupants were wearing seat belts.
