4-Year-Old Shot At Kansas City Park Wednesday Evening

The girl, who suffered a non-life-threatening injury, was caught in a crossfire between the occupants of two vehicles.

A 4-year-old girl got caught in crossfire while going to play at the park Wednesday evening. The child suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

Officers were nearby when they heard gunshots about 6:05 p.m. Sept. 2 coming from Oak Park at 43rd and South Benton. They found a woman cradling her bleeding daughter on the ground. The child had been getting out of the car to play at the park. A bystander provided a towel to officers, who applied pressure to the wound until an ambulance arrived.

Investigation revealed the occupants of two vehicles were firing at each other as they drove on South Benton. Police located multiple shell casings.
