City Of Kansas City: COVID Vaccinations At City Market This Saturday

The KCMO Health Department and City Market are again teaming up to offer a convenient COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at City Market. Look for the KCMO Mobile Vaccine Unit in front of the Steamboat Arabia Museum.

Eligible school children who receive a COVID vaccine at the City Market clinic will receive a bag of school supplies full of all the necessities, including a calculator, earbuds and a combination lock.

During summer weekends when there’s good weather, City Market welcomes about 20,000 visitors per day.

“Kansas City has a 42 percent completed vaccination rate, but we need at least 70 percent. We are grateful to City Market for partnering with us to increase the rate and loosen the virus’ grip on our lives. There is no better way to make it easy for people to get vaccinated than to go to where they are,” said Frank Thompson, Kansas City Health Department acting health director.

“We know many who plan to shop and eat at the City Market on Saturday have seen the news and know the concern in hospitals and among exhausted medical staff. Medical care workers need this from us. We encourage all those still unvaccinated to take advantage of this opportunity to protect themselves and those around them who are vulnerable and can’t take the vaccine, like our children under 12 and those with weakened immune systems. We all know a child. We all know someone vulnerable. Think of them as you take the vaccine this Saturday.”

Some have also been waiting on the Food and Drug Administration’s full approval of a vaccine, which came this week. The FDA announced full approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for ages 16 & up. Children 12 to 15 years old are still able to receive the vaccine under emergency use authorization.

For adults, the health department will have all three vaccines to choose from. No appointment is necessary. Vaccines:

Pfizer Approved for anyone at least 12 years old

Requires a second dose three weeks after the first, which will be scheduled with the KCMO Health Department. Moderna 18 years old and older.

Requires a second dose four weeks after the first. Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) 18 years and older

One-dose vaccine If you are due for a second dose or eligible for a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna, please bring your vaccination card. Health insurance is not required, but if you do have insurance, please also bring your information to process an administration fee. There will be no cost to you. “COVID vaccinations have been available since the beginning of 2021. Eight months later, we had hoped to have more people vaccinated and be further along, no longer talking about whether children will be in the classroom all year, about masking, and the dying or those suffering long-term effects of COVID,” said Thompson. “Let’s rally together this Saturday.
