The City of Kansas City, Missouri, Convention Center has once again been recognized as a national leader in the entertainment and facilities industry. For the 15th consecutive year, Facilities & Destinations Magazine has awarded the Convention Center with its prestigious Prime Site Award.
Facilities & Destinations Prime Site Awards are based on the opinions of those in the industry directly involved with site selection – association executives, meeting planners and trade show managers. The criteria for the award includes functionality of convention centers, technological capabilities, food and beverage operation, Internet access, size and quality of meeting space. The 2021 Award criteria also included the COVID-19 preparedness and service to the community.

“By winning a Prime Site Award – as the Kansas City Convention Center has done for each of the past 15 years and 18 times total since the award began in 1994 – it is obvious that your staff does a fine job serving your event clientele,” said George Seli, Editorial Director of Facilities & Destinations Magazine, in his award announcement letter.
The Convention Center is considered a prime location in the heart of downtown Kansas City. The Center is minutes from restaurants, hotels and entertainment, and just a short drive from the Kansas City International Airport. The Convention Center offers approximately 388,800 square feet of exhibit space, 48 state-of-the-art meeting rooms, a 2,400 seat fine arts theatre, and an arena that seats more than 10,700 people.
The Grand Ballroom, which has previously been awarded the LEED Silver rating by the U.S. Green Building Council, is a 40,400 square foot room that can be expanded to 46,600 square feet, making it one of the 10 largest convention center ballrooms in the country. The ballroom connects to the Conference Center to provide additional breakout rooms and also opens to an outdoor plaza at the southeast corner of the complex. The ballroom is equipped with a sophisticated color-changing light system and dramatic views of the city from the 38-foot-high glass wall.
Additionally, the Kansas City Convention Center welcomed a new hotel partner, the Loews Kansas City Convention Hotel which opened in Spring of 2020 and offers best in class amenities and services and is connected to the Convention Center via an enclosed walk way. This past year, the Convention Center received the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) Star accreditation which demonstrates the superior ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from biorisk and infectious disease situations related to COVID-19.
