City Of Kansas City: KCMO Expands Street Sweeping Efforts Through MyKCMO App

The City of Kansas City is launching a more aggressive street-cleaning campaign which includes an easier way for residents to request street sweeping, thanks to the new myKCMO app. KC Water operates a fleet of street sweepers that remove trash and debris that collects along the curb and can wash into catch basins (storm drains), preventing garbage from running into area streams and rivers and getting into our pump stations and treatment plants. Connecting this service with the myKCMO app will streamline the process. “Sweeping curbed streets helps prevent localized flooding on the streets and keeps trash and debris out of our region’s water ways,” said Terry Leeds, KC Water Director. “With residents help, we can keep our streets and waterways clean.” "This more aggressive street sweeping plan is one of a few ways we are working to help clean the streets of Kansas City” said City Manager Brian Platt. Public Works also recently launched a more aggressive plan to remove litter and trash from city streets and other dumping areas. KC Water operates eight street sweepers across Kansas City. Their primary focus has been to clean the combined sewer area, which is located from the Missouri River, south to 85th Street and from the state line to the Blue River. The federally-mandated Consent Decree requires that this area be swept twice a year, but the City will run sweepers in response to citizen requests as well.
