816-673-9361 Starting August 13, Kansas Citians will be able to walk with pride across three new colorful additions to KC streets in Midtown. The Office of the City Manager of the City of Kansas City, Mo is partnering with the LGBTQ Commission to install two Pride Progress themed crosswalks at the intersection of 39th St. and Summit tomorrow, August 13, 2021 at 2pm, in front of the historic LGBTQ+ establishment, Missie B’s. Missie B’s will host and feature Entertainment Director KiKi Uchawi as MC during a recognition ceremony in honor of Kansas City’s first pride crosswalk. KC will join other cities across the nation who are bringing awareness of the LGBTQ Community to the streets. Also in attendance will be Zeke’s Freedom Foundation and the Kansas City Pride Alliance, who will be partnering with Missy B’s to raise funds for local LGBTQ organizations in honor of this event as well as promote the return of Kansas City’s Pride festival and parade later this month. The Kansas City Pride Festival and Parade will be during the weekend of August 21-22 and we hope that this event serves as a beginning to the Path to Pride here in Kansas City, Missouri. The City is grateful to lead in this effort of representation and visibility for the LGBTQ+ Community who call Kansas City home. This effort was planned and brought forward in collaboration with the LGBTQ Commission, Council Offices of CM Bunch and CW Bough, City Manager Brian Platt, KC Proud, Missie B’s and the Public Works Department. The selection of the crosswalk featuring the Progress Pride Flag is significant in its signaling toward inclusivity, support, and visibility for the entire LGBTQ+ Community. The colors in this particular flag represent the inclusion of the Trans Community (blue/white/pink) as well as the vibrant Black and Brown LGBTQ+ Community (black/brown) and sets the bar of representation at the highest level, which is foundational in the City’s movement toward equity.
