Thanks to the combined efforts of neighbors, neighborhood groups and the city’s Solid Waste Services Division, Kansas City is considerably cleaner. During four neighborhood clean-up events in June, almost 270 tons of trash and brush, more than 5,800 tires and almost 7,000 pounds of electronics was collected.

The four, four-hour-long clean-up events -- held in council districts throughout the city -- encouraged residents to properly dispose of trash, bulky items and tires and recycle old electronics.
“It was an incredible effort,” said Robert Woods, special projects coordinator. “When these items are properly thrown away or recycled, it can, and does, make a difference.”
