Kansas City to Celebrate Lung Cancer Survivors, Research

Every five minutes, a woman in the U.S. is told that she has lung cancer and one in four will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetimes. Because of these startling facts, the American Lung Association in Kansas & Greater Kansas City will host the second annual LUNG FORCE Glam! on May 10, an event to raise awareness about lung cancer, and celebrate survivors and advancements in research.

“Over the last 30 years, the rate of new lung cancer cases in women increased 94 percent and the number of women who die from the disease has doubled,” said Linda Crider, the executive director for the Lung Association in Kansas & Greater Kansas City. “This event will raise awareness about lung cancer, but also celebrate lung cancer survivors and the incredible advancements in research and treatment options.”

LUNG FORCE Glam is held during national Women’s Lung Health Week, an annual observance from May 6 – 12, and just a few days before Mother’s Day. The event is held at the Gallery Event Space in the Power & Light District of Kansas City, and will include a cocktail hour, silent auction, plated dinner, inspirational speakers and more. Almost 90 cents of every dollar raised will go to the Lung Association’s programs and services, including research, advocacy and public health education.
