The Fire Chief thanks KC voters for approval of the ¼ cent sales tax.

“Thank you, Kansas City, for continuing your support of KCFD,” said Fire Chief Donna Maize. “The monies generated annually will help us maintain the professional service that we have provided to KC residents for more than 150 years.”
The number of Emergency Medical Service calls continue to become a larger percentage of KCFD operations. During the last three years, EMS responses have increased by more than 7,000 calls. This funding will help replace ambulances and upgrade medical equipment like EKG monitors.

EMS ambulances respond to all structure fires, HAZ-MAT calls, and numerous traffic accidents. EMS crews are needed at structure fires to provide on-site medical care for residents and KCFD staff when necessary.
Projects also include:
- remodeling and rebuilding of 12 fire stations
- construction of gender-neutral bathrooms
- replacement of radios
- dispatching system improvements
