Nicholas “Nick” Sarpy is joining our Finance team on Tuesday, May 26, when he takes over as Deputy Director, replacing Tammy Queen, who was promoted to the department’s top position in October 2019.
Before coming to KCMO, Sarpy was the Accounting Manager in Surprise, Ariz., where he was responsible for many of the same things he’ll oversee in his new role. His duties here will include: accounts, administration, treasury and revenue. He’ll also be our acting Budget Officer until a replacement for Scott Huizenga is named. Huizenga is moving to San Antonio to become Budget Director there. His resignation is effective June 5.

We’re also getting a new City Treasurer. Doug Buehler is retiring on July 1, but a familiar face is stepping up to assume this critical role. Kimberly Carter will take over as City Treasurer, effective May 26. Carter has been our Cash Manager for almost 10 years and brings considerable knowledge of banking practices to the position.
“We are so happy to have her on the management team,” Queen said. “Margaret Scherschel will step in as Acting Cash Manager until we are allowed to do a formal recruitment, so we are in good hands.”
