Kansas City resident selected as 2017 Bank of America Student Leader

Lincoln College Preparatory Academy student Sakina Bhatti selected for the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders Pro

Lincoln College Preparatory Academy senior Sakina Bhatti was one of five Kansas City-area teens selected to be part of the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders program this summer. The program awarded the students a paid, eight-week summer internship at a local nonprofit and a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Bank of America Student Leadership Summit.

Sakina is an active community volunteer. Prior to becoming a Student Leader, Sakina was involved with Debate Kansas City, an urban debate league that serves inner-city students and advises them on the fundamentals of effective communication. Sakina believes that one of the best ways to combat violence in her community is volunteering and instilling a passion for education and debate in those most vulnerable. Sakina one day aspires to build a community center in her neighborhood with the mission of encouraging younger children to stay in school.

As part of the Bank of America Student Leaders program, Sakina received a paid, eight-week internship at the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC). The internship provided her with valuable work experience while also supporting the nonprofit with extra help this summer.
