During the hustle of preparing holiday meals, this is a good time to remind everyone to properly discard of fats, oils and grease (FOG). The best way to dispose of FOG is to keep it in a container and dispose of it in the trash or at our Household Hazardous Waste facility.
“With all the cooking for family cooking big meals and everything, we just want people to know that it’s best not to put grease down the drain. Even if you are running it with hot water, the grease will settle down once it gets hard it will harden over time,” said Terrance Buckman, KC Water Utility Supervisor.

A blocked system is not easy to clean and can cause problems for a homeowner and even a neighborhood. If the blockage makes its way to the main sewer line, KC Water crews have to use a special tool that works like a high powered pressure washer – to clear out the grease.
When you’re in the kitchen please don’t pour any fats, oils or grease down the drain. Instead, let it cool and put it in a container. You can enjoy your holiday much easier without a clogged sewer line.
