Olathe resident selected as 2017 Bank of America Student Leader

Olathe South High School student Kylee Wallentine selected for the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders Program

Olathe South High School senior Kylee Wallentine was one of five Kansas City-area teens selected to be part of the 2017 Bank of America Student Leaders program this summer. The program awarded the students a paid, eight-week summer internship at a local nonprofit and a trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Bank of America Student Leadership Summit.

Kylee is an active member of Inclusion Connections, a center for individuals with special needs, where she builds relationships with residents and learns to lead with patience and flexibility. Kylee meets with other students at the Center to take classes, perform jobs and plan activities. In addition, Kylee volunteers with BRAVE and I Choose to Live, two organizations that generate awareness around bullying and suicide prevention. Outside of these clubs, Kylee also works to lead discussion groups at her high school around suicide prevention. Through her volunteerism, Kylee has gained confidence in her leadership and communications skills.

As part of the Bank of America Student Leaders program, Kylee received a paid, eight-week internship at the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC). The internship provided her with valuable work experience while also supporting the nonprofit with extra help this summer.
