WGU Missouri Delivers Surprise Dinner to Missouri Highway Patrol

$20,000 in Scholarships for First Responders was also announced on Nov. 3

This time of year, Daylight Saving Time is synonymous with an extra hour of slumber … but not for those who work the night shift. Most of these individuals – including the first responders at the Missouri Highway Patrol Station in Lee’s Summit – instead tacked an extra hour onto their timesheets this past weekend. The staff at WGU Missouri, which as a flexible online university has many students “whooo” are night owls themselves, wanted to demonstrate their appreciation for this, and the many other daily sacrifices first responders make, by dropping a surprise BBQ dinner at the station. The patrol men and women who had to work a longer night were fueled by good food, courtesy of the local nonprofit, fully online university. As part of this effort, WGU Missouri also introduced a new scholarship for first responders who are interested in furthering their education.

The First Responder Appreciation Scholarship is valued at $2,000 and will be awarded to at least 10 first responders across Missouri. The scholarship can be applied toward any of WGU Missouri’s bachelor’s or master’s degree programs in business, IT, K-12 education or healthcare. Applications are being accepted through March 3, 2019, at missouri.wgu.edu/tuition_financial_aid/scholarships.
