Gifted students recreate westward American trek

First and second grade students attending Gifted Resource Council's Academy Americana learned the basics of packing a wagon as pioneers traveling west on the Oregon Trail.  These "parade schooners" represent 4-foot by 10-foot wagons that Overlanders once used to migrate to their new life in the American West.

Academy Americana is one of 11 two-week Summer Academies sponsored by Gifted Resource Council (GRC) for students in grades K-8. GRC is a nonprofit educational agency that has offered enrichment programs for 42,500 academically talented youngsters since 1983. Other programs include Saturday Learning Labs and Academic Challenge Cup. GRC’s Summer Academies are being held at Crossroads College Preparatory School in the Central West End.
