I'm writing about a wonderful friend and business owner, John Gage. He owns O’Malley’s Irish Gift Shop in Maplewood. He has been in Maplewood now for 9-and-a-half years. He is friendly, kind, helpful, giving and now he is sick.
He has been diagnosed with several types of cancer; it is in his lungs, liver, colon and in his lymph nodes. They have told him he has about a year left in his life; he started chemo on Sept. 19.
The shop was all he had. He invested everything into it. He is a veteran with no life insurance.

So we are hosting a benefit for him to raise money to pay medical bills. We will have raffles (over 20 baskets) going on during the benefit with live Irish music.Â
It will happen on Sunday, Nov. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. at The Wood, 2733 Sutton Blvd. in Maplewood.
