Community Corner

Saturday Jubilee 2012

Over 1,500 volunteers are needed to position themselves outside of 90+ grocery stores throughout the St. Louis area to ask shoppers to donate food as they shop on Saturday July 28th.  This is a great volunteer opportunity for a church group, corporate group or for the kids to get involved!  We do our best to match your group with a grocery store in your local neighborhood.

Organize a group of 12-14 volunteers to staff a store for the day.  Assign a store captain that will coordinate the volunteers into 2 to 2-1/2 hour shifts.  There is no expense for your group.  All materials needed are provided.  A short training meeting will be conducted for the Store Captains the week before the event.

To address the growing problem of hunger in the St. Louis region, each month, Operation Food Search distributes more than 2 million pounds of food at no cost to our network of 250 food pantries, shelters and soup kitchens.  This in turn, feeds 130,000 local people each month, many who are in the receiving line for the first time, never imagining they would need to reach out for help.

One-third of those who receive our food are children.
