The St. Mary Magdalen (STMM) 6th grade boys baseball team won the Archdiocese CYC City/County championship game over Christ, Light of Nations by a score of 11-1 on Saturday at St. Martin of Tours Field in south St. Louis. The game was ended after Tony Dorhauer's double knocked in 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th (mercy rule in effect due to 10 run lead).
It was a true team effort for STMM as nine players scored runs and seven players had at least one RBI. STMM also rode the stellar pitching of Joe Clay and Mahoto Sasaki, who together struck out nine and allowed only four hits. A championship banner will be hung in the STMM gym in the fall.
STMM reached the championship by beating St. Joan of Arc (St. Louis City district champion) in the quarterfinal by a 12-11 score, then beating St. Joseph's (Imperial) (South County district champion) by a 12-4 score.
