Brentwood Aims for First Win in Home Opener

The Eagles will host Wesclin, and its double-trouble junior quarterback.

The hope to record their first win of the season when they host the Wesclin Warriors, from Trenton, IL, on Friday night. The game marks the home opener for the Eagles.

Last year, Brentwood lost 14-34 to Wesclin. This year, the Eagles have fallen to and .

Brentwood coach Keith Herring admitted his team has some things to work on.

“Obviously we’ve got to get some things fixed from last week. So far, we’ve had a good week of practice,” Herring said.

Wesclin is 1-1 with an even average 31 points scored for and scored against. The Eagles have averaged 10.5 points for and 45 points scored against them after two weeks.

Wesclin’s junior quarterback, Keith Haselhorst, has thrown 18 completions in 29 tries for an impressive 425 yards in two games. He also has 128 yards rushing. Senior Jake Heely has rushed 110 yards in 26 attempts.

Senior Chad Simondsen is the top Warriors scorer with four touchdowns. He has nine pass receptions for a total of 230 yards. Senior Alek Sopiars has six receptions for 217 yards.

Haselhorst is also the team’s punter, with a 42.6 yard average.

In Brentwood’s recent game against MRH, junior quarterback Jordan Groth threw 15 completions in 25 attempts for 83 yards. Senior Dan Lynch rushed 45 yards in 11 carries, and sophomore Daron Starks ran for 79 yards in three carries, which included a 71-yard run-back.

“They’re a pretty good team. They’re a fast team,” Herring said of Wesclin. “We respect them. They’re going to be a tough opponent so we’ve got to get ready for them.

“I feel like we have improved this week, so we’ll see what happens Friday night.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Brentwood.
