Five Holiday Volunteering Opportunities in Maplewood-Brentwood
Maplewood and Brentwood offer numerous volunteer opportunities during the holiday season.

The holiday season is upon us, and while many Brentwood and Maplewood residents may prepare for relaxing and fulfilling holiday celebrations, many people aren't quite so lucky. Here are just a few of the rewarding volunteer opportunities available in the Maplewood-Brentwood area.
1705 South Hanley Road, Brentwood

The Animal Protective Association of Missouri is looking for volunteers to fill a number of positions at their Brentwood location. Adoption counselors, community outreach volunteers and animal care assistants are needed. Animal care assistants would be responsible for cleaning, walking and petting the animals kept at the shelter.

The food pantry at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Maplewood is always on the lookout for eager volunteers to help staff the food bank. Volunteers are especially needed on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Saturdays from 9:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. Volunteers fill and deliver orders and help sort donations that come in. "If you don't have time to come in, we also greatly appreciate donations of canned goods and blankets," volunteer coordinator John Hochstatter said.

The Salvation Army in Maplewood is eager for volunteers to act as bell ringers during the busy holiday season. Volunteers can sign up to work for as little as an hour or for as long as a day ringing bells outside of local businesses. Kids Under Twenty-One operates a crisis hotline that assists youth with stress and coping methods, teen depression and crisis intervention. Volunteers are also needed to join the Peer Helper Team; this program consists of teenagers assisting their peers using roleplaying and group building exercises. "We're always searching for devoted, responsible volunteers," coordinator Angela Boriach said.
St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired
8770 Manchester Road, Brentwood

The St. Louis Society for the Blind and Visually Impaired is in search of friendly, caring and dedicated volunteers who are willing to donate their time to the organization. Friendly visitors, community activity assistants and office assistants are especially needed. Hours are flexible, and the organization is extremely grateful for any time that volunteers have available to help.
