Principal: MAP Math Proficiency Rises at MRH Middle

This year, Dr. Robert Dillon, principal of , wrote in an email that the number of MRH eighth-graders who scored proficient or advanced on the Missouri Assessment Program rose by 20 percentage points over scores in 2010.

A total of 35 percent of students had scores at that level last year, and that figure rose to 55 percent this year.

It's one of the findings Dillon sent parents following the release of MAP results to the public on Thursday. Among the other findings Dillon made:

MATH

• 53 percent of all MRH middle school students scored proficient or advanced on the math portion of the MAP, up from 48 percent last year

• 10 percent of MRH seventh-graders scored in the below-basic category for math, an all-time low

• 13.9 percent of MRH eighth-graders scored in the below-basic category for math, an all-time low

• 35 percent of MRH eighth-graders were in the advanced category for math

• 55.4 percent of MRH middle school students overall scored proficient or advanced in math, meeting the state's annual yearly performance goal in that subject

COMMUNICATION ARTS

• 62 percent of all MRH middle school students scored proficient or advanced in communication arts, the first time the school has averaged above 60 percent in that category

• 3.8 percent of eighth graders (two students) scored below basic in communication arts, down from 12.9 percent last year

• 7.1 percent of seventh graders scored below basic in communication arts, the first time the school has gone below 10 percent in that category

• 65.5 percent of MRH middle school students overall scored proficient or advanced in communication arts, meeting the state's annual yearly performance goal in that subject

 SCIENCE

• 54 percent of eighth-graders scored proficient or advanced in science, up from 44 percent last year
