1. Mexico to deepen Lakeview Lake during culvert project (mexicoledger.com) — Lakeview Lake in Mexico is being deepened while the city finishes its culvert replacement, aiming for five feet of depth to cut algae and improve fishing. The $100,000 dredging ties into broader stormwater upgrades, ARPA-funded projects, and reuse of excavated dirt for the Audrain Medical Center demolition. City officials say residents should notice stormwater improvements by the end of August.

2. Local businesses help Mainstreet flourish (mexicoledger.com) — Downtown Mexico’s square is brighter thanks to 14 Mainstreet Mexico planters, now filled with red, white and blue flowers funded by the Edmonston Foundation and Central Bank of Mexico. The Mainstreet Design committee hopes to keep planting twice a year and is asking residents and businesses for donations and watering help to sustain this visible improvement around local shops and offices.

3. Mexico softball youth camp not washed out (mexicoledger.com) — Young softball players from Mexico gathered at the Mexico Sports Complex for a youth camp that pushed ahead indoors despite Friday’s rain. Led by head coach Hanna Jones and the Lady Bulldogs, the camp focused on sharing high school drills, building coaching skills among older players, and strengthening community support for making this an annual Mexico tradition.

4. WIC services in Vandalia will move to a new building next Thursday (krcgtv.com) — Families in Mexico can continue accessing WIC services at 1130 S. Elmwood Drive, while Vandalia’s WIC office moves to a new building opening August 13. The program offers income-eligible pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children nutritious food, health screenings, and breastfeeding support. Check eligibility based on income and nutritional risk before applying.
