• Renovation starts this week on former Neosho Colored School (itemonline.com) — Interior renovation is finally starting this week on the historic Neosho Colored School at 639 Young Street, a project local advocates have pursued for 15 years. The Carver Birthplace Association has hired Construction Services Group to restore the 1872 building, which once educated newly freed African American students and has long been hidden in plain sight.

• Neosho homeless center enhancing mental health support (fourstateshomepage.com) — Neosho’s Restoration Life Center is expanding on-site mental health support by partnering with Access Family Care, bringing therapists to town weekly in a mobile unit. Starting in June, homeless clients will get assessments and help with medical needs locally, aiming to better support job training and long-term stability in the community.

• Three Neosho athletes sign to play at the next level (fourstateshomepage.com) — Three Neosho High School standouts just signed to keep competing in college, showcasing local talent on bigger stages. Long jumper Aleigha Carmel is headed to Fort Scott, wrestler Chase Kivett to Drury, and basketball standout Jazmyn Washington to Stephens College, each emphasizing family, academics, and strong coach relationships in their choices.
