Breakfast Restaurant Battle: Cappucino's vs Ham 'N Egg

This week we wake up our tastebuds as Cappucino's faces off with Ham 'N Egg for best breakfast in O'Fallon

Breakfast. It's not only the most important meal of the day, it also has the potential to be the tastiest. Breakfast is the only time of day when it's socially acceptable to eat a plate full of sugar as your main course. We sampled the sweet morning treats at and to learn where to find the best morning food in O'Fallon.

BEST HASHBROWNS
Pro: At Ham 'N Egg, the thin sliced German style potatoes were scattered across a grill until they achieved a perfect golden brown. Crispy on the outside, buttery soft within - they were droolworthy.
Con: They were a little on the greasy side (but worth it).

Pro: The hash browns at Cappucino's were entirely grease free.
Con: They were also mostly flavor free. The generic Waffle House clones somehow failed to capture the cracktastic charm of the original.

Winner: Ham 'N Egg. With flavor and texture like that I can mop up the grease with  my toast and eggs.

BEST SUGARY BREAKFAST TREAT MASQUERADING AS BREAD

Pro: Ham 'N Egg's massive pancakes tasted just as good reheated as they did fresh on my plate.
Con: They're so full of chocolate chips if you eat the entire short stack without some protein you'll spin around like a five-year-old on a sugar high and crash for the rest of the afternoon.

Pro: The only French Toast I acknowledge starts as a loaf of bread, a glass of milk and a couple of eggs instead of some cream cheese stuffed pastry. (I'm looking at you, Denny's. Repent!) Cappucino's rendition was tasty, filling and made from all the right things.
Con: You shouldn't order them via the drive-through.

Winner: Tie! These were both tasty, well executed breakfast sweets. Eat your eggs first then enjoy with impunity.

BEST SERVICE
Pro: Ham 'N Egg was packed to capacity yet the waitress made me feel like I had all the time in the world.
Con: Cappucino's was mostly empty but the waitress was eager to shoo me out.

Winner: Ham 'N Egg. It takes a lot of work to make someone feel relaxed in such a busy restaurant. I was genuinely astonished at Cappucino's.

Overall Winner: Ham 'N Egg

The charming staff, diverse menu options, low prices, and great taste of their food won me over. Cappucino's had a shorter menu, higher prices and far less friendly staff. You can get in and out of either restaurant within half an hour of being seated, so they're both good breakfast options, but Ham 'N Egg has an extra tasty, friendly edge.
