SCC Celebrates International Education Week

St. Charles Community College (SCC) has presentations, student panels and films about education, history andΒ internationalΒ affairs planned to celebrate InternationalΒ Education Week onΒ Nov. 14-17.

TheΒ InternationalΒ Education Week program is sponsored by theΒ SCCΒ Global Education and Multicultural Programming committees. Most of the events will take place in the auditorium of the Social Sciences Building on the college’s campus in Cottleville.

International Education Week Schedule:Β 

Monday, Nov. 14
11 a.m. – Holidays Around the World Event
Enjoy a sampling of food, history and culture fromΒ SCC’sΒ internationalΒ students. This will take place in the Plaza Bistro of the Student Center.

Tuesday, Nov. 15
10 a.m. – Divided by a Single Language: Adventures in Canterbury (Presentation)
Karen Jones,Β SCCΒ professor of English, will discuss her trip to Canterbury, England.

1 p.m. – Lessons From Cuba (Presentation)
Paul Roesler,Β SCCΒ professor of political science, will share his experiences from his summer trip to Cuba.

7 p.m. – β€œLe hΓ©risson” (Film)
β€œLe hΓ©risson” (2009), French for β€œthe hedgehog,” is a French film with English subtitles, and will be hosted by Denise McCracken,Β SCCΒ professor of foreign language. This film is rated PG.

Wednesday, Nov. 16
10 a.m. – Culture Shock: Adjusting to Life in America (Student Panel)
Becky Ingraham,Β SCCΒ professor of reading, will moderate a student panel made up of English as a Second Language students, who will discuss what it is like adjusting to life in America.

Noon – The Effect of Two Urban Cultures (Presentation)
Vi Rajagopalan,Β SCCΒ associate professor of psychology, will share her experience coming to America as a young, married Indian woman, and the differences she found between individualistic and collectivistic cultures.

7 p.m. – β€œMetropolis” (Film)
"Metropolis" (2001) is a Japanese anime film in English about a world far in the future where robots and humans live together, but not in harmony. Hosted by Darren Osburn,Β SCCassociate professor of communication. This film is rated TV-14.

Thursday, Nov. 17
7 p.m. – β€œLion of the Desert” (Film)
"Lion of the Desert" (1981), is an Arabic film in English that follows the story of Omar Mukhtar, an Arab Muslim rebel who fought against the Italian conquest of Libya in World War I. Laura Chehade,Β SCCΒ adjunct faculty member, will host the film. This film is rated PG.
