FZN Scholar Bowl off to a great start!

The FZN Scholar-Bowl team hopes to defend the district title.

The FZN Scholar-Bowl team is off to another great start this school year. The team is currently 7 - 1 in St. Charles County league play, and finished 9th at the World Quest Invitational and 10th at the Washington Invitational. The Scholar-Bowl team, nicknamed the "Turtles" by long-time coach Laura Gianini, conducts practices every Friday during the school year. The team focuses on academic trivia (literature, history, sciences, math) in addition to fine arts, sports, and pop culture. The "Turtles" welcome students from all grades, academic levels, and knowledge backgrounds. Team captian, Emily Sigmud, had this to say about the team, "You'll never find a group of kids as accepting as us. We don't care who you are." Senior Tim Kruper added, "Scholar Bowl has, in addition to teaching me new things everyday, fostered the growth of new friendships and strengthened old ones." Scholar-Bowl is a MSHSAA sponsored activity, all competitions are sanctioned by the Gateway Athletic Conference.

The team has 5 matches remaining in league play, as well as the Holt Invitational, Orchard Farm Invitational, GAC Tournament, and the MSHSAA District tournament. The primary goal of this year's squad is to defend the District title won last season. The District title was a first for FZN after the team finished as the District runner-up the previous 5 seasons. This year's team has been led by their "Big Three": Captain Emily Sigmund, Lorraine Linson, and Caleb Fick.

The FZN "Turtles" host their own competition on February 20th. Members of the public and FZN student-body are invited to attend. In addition, the team will host its' annual trivia-night fundraiser on March 23rd at North High. Family, friends, as well as teachers are welcome to attend the event.
