The FZN Scholar Bowl team was recently named as the National Academic Quiz Tournament Association's "Team of the Weeek". The team features 24 competitors on 4 teams ranging from varsity to novice. After a previous teammate began guessing “turtle” for unknown answers, the team adopted the turtle as their mascot and collected many stuffed versions that must be superstitiously touched prior to every match. At FZN they make trivia more than just competitive play with weekly trivia lunches, random acts of trivia, and annual Quizoween, Quizmas (with our carol “The Twelve Days of Quizmas”), and Quizentine’s Day celebrations.
Fans of popular culture, the team also has a penchant for trivia regarding Jon Bon Jovi and The Brady Bunch. For the past three seasons, the the team has featured the “Big Three” leading the way: Captain Emily Sigmund, the literature and theatrical expert who has seen all the plays that you don’t want to pay to see; Lorraine Linson, the art and mythological maven who can pronounce all the names that you can’t; and Caleb Fick, the math, religion, and political guru who brings up all the subjects you want to avoid at the dinner table. Their supporting cast includes Sierra Burton, Morgan Butryn, Mathew Bessette, and Elsa Linson. Whether singing on the bus, organizing our annual trivia night, or coining Latin portmanteaus, the team revolves around encouragement, humorous witticisms, and zealous dedication to each other
