FZN Volleyball wins at Alton!

The Panthers sweep the field to win the tournament title.

The FZN volleyball team continued their winning ways last weekend in Alton, Illinois. The team defeated opponents from: Alton, Civic Memorial, Roxana, and Jersey without losing a set to claim the title at the Redbird Invitational. A trio of Panthers: Mercedes Vomund, Jamie Hauser, and Tiana Jackson were selected to the "All-Tournament" team. Jackson was named the tournament MVP. The tournament title capped a great week for the Panthers. A week that saw the team defeat both Fort Zumwalt East and Washington in conference play. The victory over Washington marked the first time that FZN has defeated the traditional conference power. The team followed up last week by sweeping long-time rival Fort Zumwalt South this past Tuesday. The team is now an impressive 11 - 1 on the season. Head Coach Mark Morrision state what he believes to be the key to the Panthers success so far this season, "I believe we have people executing their role and caring more about the team than the individual. Our team is not a bunch of players with job titles, but a congregation of individuals, each of whom has a role that is understood by other team members."

The Panthers return to action next Tuesday (9/20) as they travel to Wentzville to play the Holt Indians. Holt defeated FZN in a three set thriller earlier this season.
