Team Goals/Expectations: The Panthers return a strong nucleus of
wrestlers headed into the 2022 – 2023 season. Between the boys and girls
programs the Panthers have nearly 80 grapplers out for the team. Back in the
fold, after an injury a season ago, is senior Chance Cole. Cole hopes to
compete for a state title this season, wrestling at the 165 lbs. weight class. He
serves as the foundation for a solid group of mid to upper weights for the
Panthers. Also back is sophomore – Nathan Provost, who placed 6 th in state
last season. Provost is expected to wrestle at the 113 lbs. weight class. Senior
Alex Goeke, who qualified for state last season, will return as the anchor for
the team, once again wrestling as the Panther’s heavyweight. One the girls
side, the Panther return the dynamic duo of Jaylin Ebert and Courtnee Hoff.
Last season, Ebert nabbed All-State honors after finishing 6 th at state last
season, while Hoff just narrowly missed medaling. The pair give the Panthers
a strong one-two punch at the front of the Panther line-up. Also back is state
qualifier Abby Porter, who anchors the top of the Panther line-up.
Solid newcomers for both genders, will help the Panthers fill their line-up with
a solid mix of newcomers and veterans, with hopes of competing for
conference and district titles.
Quote: "This is an exciting year for FZN Wrestling. For the past couple
years we have been adding wrestlers who are committed to the process of
being great, not just wanting to show up. Already, the attitude in the
practice room is WAY different than it has been in the past. I believe this
group is a group that will thrive in adversity and not back away. Sure we
have some returning medalists, and that’s exciting, but we also have a group
of guys and girls who return as grinders. They come in every day, work
hard, and have a positive attitude. They haven’t seen all the success yet, but
they are working for it everyday. Groups like that make coaching fun, and
usually build toward the success of a program. It may not happen right away for some of them, but if they stick with it… the future is bright for FZN." Josh Cooper

Boys Basketball
Head Coach: Mike Uffmann (6th year)
Top Returners: Jervon Ford, Trent Menke, Lynden Sanders, Bobby Edwards, Kobe Anderson
Top Newcomers: Murtaja Alkhaldi, Cole Heckelmann, Chase Ostmann, Chaun Robinson, Jonathon Turnbull, PJ Henderson
Team Goals/Expectations: The Panthers have a 3-year record of 60-28 and we will look to continue our winning ways. We return 50% of our scoring from last season and we have a lot of experience at the guard position and expect big contributions from Kobe, Jervon, Lynden, Bobby and Trent. Cole and Chaun will provide depth at the guard position for us while our big men Murtaja, Chase, JT and PJ will all be gaining varsity experience. We expect to compete every night.
Quote:"We return 5 guards that have starting experience, including all-conference sophomore Kobe Anderson. We will only have 2 seniors but we played so many underclassmen last year that our guards are very experienced. Our post players will continue to get better as the year goes on and they gain varsity experience. This has been a high energy group that has been very coachable and fun to be around and we are looking forward to getting our season started." Mike Uffmann
First Game: The Panthers competed in a jamboree in which they beat both Pacific and St. Charles. We will be playing in the Borgia "Turkey" Tournament over Thanksgiving break. Their first round matchup is against Ownesville at 6:00 on Tuesday, November 22 at Borgia. The semi-finals are on Friday and the Championship round is on Saturday. Our first home game is Tuesday, December 6 against Timberland.
Girls Basketball
Head Coach: Dusty Weiskopf (4th year)
Top Returners: Rihanna Blanchard, Mati Skelton, Ava Hollandsworth, Abby Anderson, Shae Young
Top Newcomers: Claire Vogel, Ella Rosenburg, Lea Rosenburg, Rumor Janes
Team Goals/Expectations: We are looking to pick up where we left off last year with a strong finish to the year. We are a year older and have more experience so we are looking forward to that. We have a lot of girls that have varsity experience from last year and have a nice group of young talent to blend with that. Some things we want to do this year is being able to compete in every game and put ourselves in the best situations to be able to have a chance at winning at the end of games. We want to be known as a team with tenacity, grit, determination, and togetherness. If we trust the process, and get better each and every day, great things are in store for us this season.
First Game: November 29th @ Francis Howell North - 6:30 pm, November 30th vs. Liberty @ FZN - 6:30 pm
Girls Swim & Dive
Head Coach: Alice Maloney
Top Newcomers: Hanna Shaw, Sophia Boren, Veronica Martin, & Jamie Hoeman
Top Returners: Callie James, Clarisse Woods, Kira Wison, Savannah Maier, and
Marysa Allen
Team Goals/Expectations: The team this year is fairly large but we are going to make the most of it. We have nine seniors so we had to recruit underclassmen to rebuild. Last year we lost two huge components of the team with the graduation of Sydney Kelsey and early graduation of Lyla Campbell this year. They were both a part of the State team we took last year that competed in all three relays. We are in a rebuilding stage trying to work with many new swimmers and divers that have great potential.
Quote: “We are big this year and we are going to discover the potential of many girls in swim and dive. We have been moved into the BIG school division in the GACs so, we need to be big and develop as many girls to become good swimmers and divers. We are looking forward to a ton of growth this year!" Alice Maloney
First Meet: November 30th vs. Hannibal @ Rec-Plex - 3:30 pm.
