FZN Winter Sports - Update

Panthers reach the midpoint of the Winter season.

Winter Sports Update

Wrestling

The FZN Wrestling team currently sports a 4 - 2 dual meet record. The team defeated Fort Zumwalt East 57 - 18 in their most recent contest. Over the Christmas Break, the Panthers competed in the 18 team Joe Bee Invitational in Springfield, IL and the 17 team Lindbergh Flyer Classic. The grapplers finished 7th at Springfield and 4th at Lindbergh.

The wrestlers will compete this Friday and Saturday (1/8 - 1/9) at the combined GAC Championships held at St. Charles West High School. Action at the GAC begins at 5:00 pm on Friday and 9:30 am on Saturday.

Girls Basketball

The FZN Girls Basketball team currently stands at 9 - 5 on the season. The girls defeated Francis Howell North 45 - 31 in their most recent contest played last Tuesday. The victory over FHN avenged an earlier loss to the Knights. The girls competed in the MICDS Tournament over holiday break going 1 - 2.

Notable performers:

Tori Nesslage - 9.9 ppg.

Rachel Pudlowski - 9.7 ppg.

Lana Fallert - 6.9 ppg.

Dajah Robinson - 5.5 ppg.

The girls return to action next Thursday (1/4) as they play host to Father Tolton Catholic of Columbia, Missouri. Tip-Off is scheduled for 6:30 pm.

Boys Basketball

The Panthers have a 5 - 6 mark heading into the heat of the conference play. The Panthers competed in the rugged Collinsville, IL Tournament over the holiday break, going 2 - 2 in tournament play. The Panthers defeated Urbana, IL (50 - 46) and McCluer North (68 - 65) after losing their first two games to Lincoln, IL (45 - 48) and Riverview (38 - 53). The Panthers lost their most recent contest to University City by a single point, rallying from a 17 point deficit before eventually falling by a score 78 - 79.

Notable performers include:

Austin Schwerdt - 13.9 ppg.

Marco Powells - 11.3 ppg.

Blake Wilson - 10.5 ppg.

The boys return to action tonight as they play host to the Hazelwood West Wildcats. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
