Gershenson Approved for 2012 Asphalt Program

Around $300,000 in road improvements will be made around O'Fallon this summer that will be completed by Gershenson Construction.

The O’Fallon City Council recently approved a contract with Gershenson Construction to complete the 2012 Asphalt Program.  In the May 24 council meeting, Gershenson was chosen out of five companies who submitted bids for the project.  Eleven companies initially acquired plans for the project, but out of the five that submitted bids, Gershenson was deemed to be the lowest responsible bidder.

“The project consists of resurfacing some of the asphalt roadways across the city that are in need of repair,” said Wade Montgomery, O’Fallon City Engineer.  “We look at the conditions of the roads, assess and base those ratings, and the ones that are in the worst condition will be set to receive the updates.”

Montgomery estimates the total cost of the road resurfacing project to be around $300,000.  The main project will consist of repaving several streets, including but not limited to: Brisco Ave., Eastbrook Lane, Aster, St. Dominic, and St. Mary’s Place.

Additional bids were made for two projects that also fall under the 2012 Asphalt Program updates.  The first project will be the paving of a parking lot for Environmental Services at the Waste Transfer Station located at Hoff Industrial Rd., which is currently a gravel lot.  Costs for this project are estimated to be $22,050, according to the City Council May 24 meeting records.

The second project is also at the Waste Transfer Station and will be the paving of an asphalt floor for a proposed salt storage building.  The estimated cost is $42,487.  The City Council May 24 meeting record states, a “mid-year budget amendment for expenses for the salt floor will need to be approved for the $42,487.50 to be taken from the Street Department budget.”

All together, the 2012 Asphalt Program is estimated to total $359,788.70, according to the Council May 24 records.

Construction on these projects will begin later this month.  “We’re still waiting on paper work and then a pre-construction meeting to take place, but after that, we’re good to go,” Montgomery said.

The project will take about 45 calendar days to complete, Montgomery said.
