JJ Twiggs, Ozella's Come Out in Top of Pizza Challenge
O'Fallon Patch food columnist wraps up his pizza quest and heads out for steak next month.

As we wrap up our second round of our O'Fallon food quest. I say a somber goodbye to the food that got me most of the way through college and brought happy people around my table. Pizza, you are a huge part of my life, but lets see now how O’Fallon did in the pizza challenge.
We started off our quest returning to an O’Fallon favorite – . I finally made it there to try the pizza (which they are best known for). I loved the classic St. Louis style thin crust, but not so much the wait, 45 minutes for a pizza was a little off putting. The restaurant had good pizza and a great family atmosphere, but if you are looking for O’Fallon’s best, I suggest you keep reading.
Our next stop was . I have a terrible habit of judging a restaurant “by the cover” and when looking at the outside of JJ Twiggs, you would think it looks like a bar, but once you get inside, you realize that you are pleasantly mistaken. This establishment has a full dining room complete with a fireplace and was packed to the gills. Not to mention, the pizza was awesome! The JJ Twiggs special (homemade sausage, onion, mushroom and green pepper) was definitely one of my favorites.

After that I made my way to , again by recommendation of a reader, and tried the Chicago style deep dish. What a pie! The to-go box was heavy, as I brought the leftovers to the car. I could not even finish the awesome sausage deep-dish pizza and took it home to enjoy over the next several days!
Then we traveled to family establishment with roots in North County St. Louis. I was happy again to see traditional St. Louis pizza with thin crust, provel cheese and excellent sauce. There was not a large crowd at Ozella’s when I stopped by, but nonetheless, a worthy contender in our pizza challenge.

To wrap up our pizza quest, I would say the best O'Fallon pizza would have to be JJ Twiggs, with what my dinner partner claimed was “the best pizza she had ever eaten." Second would go to Ozella’s, with a fantastic pie and a rich history in the St. Louis and O’Fallon area. Think that sounds fair? Let me know what you think!
Now we move forward in our Culinary Challenge to next months food quest. I have decided that I will be leaning a bit more towards my carnivore side and will be searching the area for O’Fallon’s best steak. Again, I must ask for your input, as the readers have not yet steered me wrong! I need to know where to go, what to try and what might measure up to be deemed O’Fallon’s best steak. Until then, Bon Appetite my friends!
