The FZN varsity softball team recently completed their best stretch of the season as the Panthers reeled of three consecutive wins last week. The Panthers defeated St. Charles West (15 - 5), Hazelwood Central (18 - 3) and Ritenour (13 - 3) to improve to 6 - 7 on the season. The Panthers have been led by their powerful bats as seven members of the team currently sport a better than .300 average! Leading the way is three year starter and team catcher Sydney Sontheimer (11) who sports an impressive .513 average. Senior Macie Blevins is close behind with a .500 batting average of her own. Julia Vedvig (12), a four year starter for the Panthers, leads the team in extra base hits (7) and RBI's (16) while batting .389. Other Panthers batting .300 or better include: Jenna Christoff (10) .367 average, Kelly Allensworth (10) .382 average, Ashley Niemczyk (10) .346 average, and Caiya Bammert (11) .314 average. Allensworth has also served as the team's primary pitcher this season. She currently has a pitching record of 4 - 2.
This week the Panther host Francis Howell Central (9/17) and Fort Zumwalt South (9/18) before traveling to Washington (9/19). In addition, to the three regular season contests during the week, the Panthers will host their annual invitational tournament on Friday (9/20) and Saturday (9/21). The eight team field includes: Borgia, Union, Winfield, Fox, St. Charles, Ritenour, Hazelwood Central and the host Panthers. All tournament games will be played on the campus of North High.
