Panthers claim the North!

FZN football defeats FHN to improve to 3 – 0 in conference play.

The FZN football team evened up their overall record to 3- 3 on the 2021 season, as the Panthers defeated Francis Howell North 62 -14 last Friday. It was the second consecutive week the Panthers have scored 60 plus points. With the win, the Panthers remain undefeated in conference (GAC Central) play. The Panther offense remains one of the more explosive in the area. Against Howell North, the Panthers rolled up an impressive 500 yards of total offense to go along with their 8 offensive scores. Quarterback Peyton Hoker completed 13 of 18 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Hoker also ran for a touchdown. DJ Jones led the Panther rushing attack as he rushed for 118 yards on just 6 carries. Jones scored twice on the night, including one touchdown run of 56 yards. Chris Reckel (2), Carter Madere, Brayden Miller and Conner O’Neal all scored a touchdown for the Panthers.

The Panther defensive effort was led by Spencer Steinmeyer, who recorded 11 solo tackles on the night. Two-way star, Chris Reckel, recorded 8 tackles, while Andrew Hoppe, PJ Henderson and Connor O’Neal each recorded 7. O’Neal also nabbed an interception.

On special teams, Noah Page was a perfect 8 for 8 in point after attempts, while Jeremiah Dickerson returned a punt for a Panther touchdown.

The Panthers return home this Friday (10/8) to take on their long-time rival Fort Zumwalt South. Each year the two teams battle for the right to claim the traveling helmet trophy that is presented to the winner of each season’s regular season contest. The Bulldogs and Panthers are currently tied at the top of the standings in the GAC Central race. During halftime of Friday’s game, the 1981 Fort Zumwalt Senior High football squad will be recognized. All members of the 81’ squad are encouraged to attend. Kickoff at Fisher Stadium is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
