The FZN varsity football team cruised to a 56 - 7 win last Friday over the Washington Blue Jays. The Panthers are now 5 - 0 (2 - 0 GAC Central) on the season. It marks just the 4th time (1974, 2014, 2015, 2017) in school history the Panthers have remained unbeaten five games into the season. Once again, Jack Ederer led the way for the Panther offense. Ederer rushed for 165 yards and 4 touchdowns on just 6 carries! Grant Latina and Cairo Payne also added offensive touchdowns for the Panthers. Latina, who has stood out on special teams this season, added a 69 yard punt return for a touchdown to add to the Panther point total. Kicker Owen Sears converted on all 8 of his extra point attempts.
The Panther defense continues to improve, on Friday against Washington they were especially stingy, holding the Blue Jay offense to under 100 yards of total offense on the night. The Panthers forced 4 turnovers with interceptions by Kyle Mallet, Eli Lewis, and Jacob Triplet and a fumble recovery by Bryce Rowles. Leading tacklers were Jaylin Vaughn, Bryce Rowles, Ben Davis, and Trevor Olson.
The Panthers return to action this Friday as they travel to conference rival Wentzville: Holt. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm
