The Fort Zumwalt North football team improved to 3 - 0 on the season with a 28 - 13 win over Parkway Central, a Class 4 semi-finalist in 2017. The Panther offense was led by the arm and legs of quarterback Joel Hilliard. Hilliard was the leading rusher for the Panthers with 78 years. He also threw for 214 yards and a touchdown. Cairoo Payne added 63 yards to the offensive total, scoring on a rushing touchdown from 4 yards out and a spectacular 63 yard punt return. Grant Latina netted 58 yards of receiving and scored the Panthers first touchdown of the night.
The Panther defense had another stellar night, holding Central to under 200 yards of total offense. They were especially impressive against the run, limiting the Colts to just 30 yards on 19 carries. Individual standouts were Cerry Watson with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. "Big" Jayline Vaughn with 9 tackles, and Max Martin with 7 tackles. Martin, Gavin Stricker, and Jarod Anderson each recorded sacks for the Panthers.
This Friday the Panthers will begin the conference (GAC Central) portion of their schedule this Friday (9/14) as they host Liberty (Wentzville) High School. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
